Dr. Timothy Olweny
Dr. Timothy Olweny is a founding Director and CEO of Evans Sunrise Medical Centre, a family-owned private hospital established in the year 1998.
He is currently the Secretary General of the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals, a consortium of Private Health Facilities that promotes the collaborative, innovative pursuit of enhanced access to quality, affordable healthcare service delivery in a manner that is sustainable for its members, and in keeping with their vital role in the quest for universal health coverage.
Dr. Olweny holds a bachelors degree in medicine and surgery, and a postgraduate diploma in the management of sexually transmitted infections, both from the University of Nairobi. He studied business at the Strathmore Business School and is currently taking a course in Leadership and Management in Health offered by the University of Washington.
Dr. Olweny’s other professional interests are in the fields of palliative care and aviation medicine. He has combined the pursuit of these interests with the fulfillment of his charitable obligation to society.
He worked at the Nairobi Hospice in the mid 1990’s and was later instrumental in founding the Nakuru Hospice in recognition of the dire need for palliative care services in the Nakuru region. He has been the Chairman of the Nakuru Hospice, a charitable trust, since it commenced operations in the year 2009.
Dr. Olweny has actively participated, on a part time basis, in the safe resettlement of those refugees rendered more vulnerable during air transportation on account of diagnosed medical conditions, from various countries within Africa to host countries in other parts of the world. He has performed this role for a period greater than ten years, and continues to do so, in conjunction with international organizations mandated to facilitate their safe passage.
