Honourable Dr. Chitalu Chilufya is a public health physician and Minister of Health in Zambia. He is currently leading a transformational agenda to create a resilient approach to universal health coverage in the country. He is a Member of Parliament for Mansa Central and PF Member of the Central Committee. Dr Chilufya served from 2014 to 2016 as Deputy Minister of Health. Prior to his work in government, he was first a clinical care specialist in Luapula Province for six years under the USAID-funded Zambia Systems Strengthening Integrated Programme and then the head of Clinical Care and Quality Assurance, responsible for all clinical care specialists in the country. In 2004, he was Medical Superintendent of Namwala District Hospital in southern Zambia before becoming director of the Namwala District Health Department. This rural experience early in his career helped him realize that a primary healthcare approach for curative and preventive services would yield more sustainable health impact for the community and the country. Dr Chilufya is a graduate of the University of Zambia School of Medicine.
